The original paintings are painted on very smooth Masonite hardboard that has been flow-coated with a base paint. The images are created by slinging, splashing, and spraying lacquer and enamel paint from above, similar to the technique used by artist, “Jackson Pollack”. The lacquer paint forms fascinating intricate patterns by bubbling, boiling, and taking on a life of its own which lends to the life of the image. The paintings have a lot of texture. All the lines you see are raised. They are shiny, smooth, and feel as if you are rubbing your hand across a sleek lacquer finished grand piano. Many of the paintings have iridescent silver or gold highlights that catch the light giving the painting an apparency of glowing from within. The reflective nature of the paint causes the painting to have different moods as the light plays, shifting from dawn to dusk. The energy and action of the unusual technique in combination with the unique characteristics of the paint, give the paintings life and movement. The viewer can almost feel the wind blowing the manes and tails of the horses.
